When information technology came time to change plugs on my 2001 F150 with the 4.6L Triton, I had the dealer get it on (about 105,000 miles showing). In CA the service provider has to yield an estimate before starting the job and the client has to sign off on that estimate. For the 8 plugs, the estimate was $400. The cost actually was much less (~$150) merely the overhaul writer said that they throw to protect themselves because it's bad easy to bogger dormy the threads in those aluminum heads, especially in the two plug holes closest to the firewall, and it's pretty valuable to repair with an insert if the worst happens while changing plugs.
In that respect accustomed be a guy here in CA who had a mobile repair business just to handle Ford Triton spark plug thread jobs in customer's driveways. Apparently he could establish a decent living fixing screwups that his customers caused trying to DIY those plugs.
Be advised and luckiness
I am leaning towards letting the dealer do it. I am not a big rooter of the mod motors, mainly because they are not real easy to maintain for the diy type.
I simply did a 4.6 it had cast heads and the plugs are in a deep hole and only use 1/2 the threads happening the plug. You do need an publicise nozzle with a long end, to snuff out the crud before you put the wrench on and and so after you turn it one turn blow it out once more. Be sure you purpose never size, and In person I use the Bosch quad four plugs, and torque them in. You have lay on the radian cover, it is the 5.4 three valve that has the most job. Put the melody line up threw the sports fan opening and you wish have no problems with information technology rubbing the paint. Make up predestined the locomotive has Sabbatum for at least 12 hours you wishing information technology cold non hardly a trifle enthusiastic. COLD workings warm does not.
I replaced the plugs in my 98 F150 with 4.6L and it was a huge pain in the backside. Had many issues with the wires shorting out and I couldn't amaze it straightened out so I took it to the dealer to deliver them doctor the wires. I father't know if it was the wires I bought from Autozone but I thought I was buying the better ones so I father't know. The dealer same the wires were shorting between each other. Information technology genuinely made me miss the flat 6 my 92 F150 had. That was such a nice engine to service.
So I sold-out the truck before I ever had to deal with the plugs again but I had decided aft messing with them that premier time that I would never touch them once again (and I enjoy servicing my own equipment). Good luck if you go assumptive with this, I hope you have better results then I did.
